I revisit World War I, with another look at WW1 minis in 28mm that you may have missed (I know I did!) and I also review Stout Hearts & Iron Troopers, the new scenario pack from Too Fat Lardies.

My in-depth review this month is of the new Napoleonic wargame Waterloo, designed by Martin Wallace

There is also a large number of reviews in the show, including products from Wargames Illustrated, HLBS Co, Knuckleduster, Spartan Games and Gripping Beast.

Meeples & Miniatures – Salute Special

At long last, several weeks later than planned, my post-Salute review show is ready for release.

…In fact, it’s so late, I’m not 100% sure that it still bears any real relevance, as since then, both Triples and Partizan have passed us by, plus shows in Milton Keynes, Bolton and Burton (to name a few).

I’m not making a huge song and dance about this show, but hopefully you may find it mildly entertaining whilst cutting the lawn.

So join me as I take a look back at the biggest wargames show of the year with Jere Koskela, Henry Hyde & Colin Hagreen.

Enjoy…

Incoming Episode 4

May 25, 2009

Welcome to episode 4 of my regular look back at the previous weeks historical miniature review.

This week, most of my favourite releases seem to be from the 20th Century – no particular reason why…

I hope you enjoy it.

Incoming! delay

May 22, 2009

It looks like the next episode of Incoming! may very well be delayed, and won’t be published until Sunday evening – I’ve got a busy couple of days whilst my wife prepares to disappear to Italy for the week, and so I’m going to be ‘otherwise engaged’.

On the plus side, it does mean that next week should include lots painting and podcast recording, so I hope to be posting the results here during the week…

View from the Veranda – Episode 1

May 16, 2009

vftv1 title

Welcome to episode #1 of View from the Veranda (VftV).

Download Episode 1

VftV is a spin off from the Meeples & Miniatures podcast, and features Neil Shuck in conversation with Henry Hyde, editor of Battlegames magazine.

In each show, we take one or two subjects as our theme, and simply ‘have a chat’ about the wargaming hobby, with these subjects in mind.

In this first episode, we discuss some of the contents of the latest issue of Battlegames magazine, and also chat about why historical wargaming doesn’t seem to be as popular as sci-fi and fantasy gaming.

So, pull up a chair and join us on the Veranda!

Incoming! Episode #3

May 16, 2009

Episode #3 of my weekly look back at the latest historical miniature release, now renamed ‘Incoming!’, is now available for your viewing pleasure.

I hope you enjoy it!

What is a Meeple?

Ever wondered what a Meeple is? The following video explains all…

Coming soon…

May 13, 2009

Just a quick update on the state of the podcasts…

I’ve been beavering away in the background here at the Meeples & Miniatures bunker, and I’m very glad to say that we are nearing completion of my next two podcast shows.

The first episode of ‘View from the Veranda‘ has been recorded and I’m busy editing it at the moment, with the hope of releasing it at the weekend.

The very late ‘Salute Special‘ show is still in the recording process – I’ve got most of it done, but it’s been difficult getting a firm recording date with Colin Hagreen due to our diaries simply not matching up – but we are hoping to record a section before the weekend, so this show should be out before the next UK Bank Holiday.

And obviously, the next ‘proper’ Meeples & Miniatures show (number 50 no less!) will be out at the end of May. The currently content includes a review of Waterloo, the new boardgame from Martin Wallace, Knuckleduster 40mm Wild West figures, Spartan Games new 40mm Greeks and there is a distinct possibility of revisiting WW1…

For show 51, I’m looking at my in depth review being of Cold War Commander.

Incoming!

May 12, 2009

After a couple of conversations about the nature of my video ‘reviews’, and in order to prevent any more confusion, I’ve decided to rename the show.

As of this coming Friday (16th May), the show will now be called ‘Incoming!‘.

The intent of the show is the same, to take a look back at the weeks miniature releases, and to pick my favourites from the week.

The show is not meant to be a critical review of the figures involved, but rather my own opinions on what has caught my eye in the batch of the week’s releases.

*Update – after a quick think, I’ve decided to stick to my original plan and only look at historical miniatures..

Meeples & Miniatures Historical Miniatures Review – Episode 2

May 9, 2009

Episode #2 of the Meeples & Miniatures Historical Miniature Review Vidcast has now been published.

This show reviews my top 10 favourite historical miniatures for the week ending 8th May 2009.

I hope you enjoy the show…
