So, following on from my post of a couple of days ago, I dutifully checked around the web for reviews of the game.
First up – thanks to Simon for pointing out the excellent videos that Wells Expeditions have put up on their website. They give a great set of tutorials about playing the game, and are a good laugh as well – other game publishers please take note of this!
However, having then seen the figures close up, courtesy of a review on the 1/72 Multiverse site, and subsequently on the Arcane Legions site itself, I am completely underwhelmed by the figures.
In short, they look not just average, but actually pretty poor.
So, this has made my mind up – I’ll save the proposed £50 outlay for this, and look to get Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel instead…

I think you made the right choice. My son and I play (he’s 7 years old) and we have a great time and I like the price. But for an experienced gamer in a club, I think the game would be disappointing. We love it ( and as a dad, I love the price), but it is limited.

For the price, it is a bargain and a wonderful introductory miniatures game. The figures (though far from excellent) paint up pretty nicely and when all is said and done, the models on their bases on a table look quite impressive.
Here in the states, there are retailers selling the starter set for about $24.00USD. Incredible value for money considering all that you get in the box!
Don’t write it off just yet. It’s pretty neat!

I gave it a try the other night and came to the same conclusion: decent game but crap minis.
On a side note it didn’t give me the results I was expected. My special roman anti missile infantry got shot to pieces. My roman anti cav guys got eaten by cav… Maybe its just a point issue but it was still disappointing that the troops didn’t live up to their hype.
Maybe their next game will have better figs and be a step up on the mechanics.
