Upcoming Podcast News

November 4, 2009

Yes I know, it’s now November and I should have put a podcast out. It was really inevitable that this was going to be delayed, given that I’ve been in the Western Isles of Scotland for a week.

But, just to let you know what is happening…

I actually have 2 episodes of Meeples & Miniatures in the works at the moment.

One is going to concentrate on boardgames, and will consist of a detailed review of the new game from Columbia Games, Richard III. It will also include ‘open box’ reviews of Battlelore: Heroes, the new edition of Commands & Colors: Ancients, plus the brand new Commands & Colors Expansion Pack #4 Imperial Rome & Commands & Colors Expansion Pack #5 Epic Ancients II.

The second is concentrating of Miniatures rules, with a review of the new Extra Impetus #2 book, Colonial Adventures from Two Hour Wargames and (hopefully) Black Powder. If all goes to plan, I will be joined on this show by Rich Jones to discuss these products.

Finally, Henry Hyde and I are also planning the next episode of View from the Veranda. I think the main topic of conversation is going to revolve around using points systems in wargames. We are currently trying to schedule the recording of this episode, as Henry is somewhat busy trying to get issue 20 of Battlegames Magazine to press at the moment.

I haven’t forgotten about the promised video miniature reviews either. These are still a ‘work-in-progress’, but I’m getting there – albeit slowly.

Thank you for your patience and support – lots of new content coming soon!

Podcast & Vidcast news – October 2009

October 1, 2009

Hi everyone

Just thought I’d give you a quick update with what is due to be happening during the course of October…the answer is ‘not a lot’.

Meeples & Miniatures – I’m hoping to get a short show out sometime in the next two weeks. This will probably be missing it’s ‘in-depth’ review though…

View from the Veranda – Henry and I recorded a show last Thursday, but I’ve been struggling for time to edit it (it didn’t help that we talked for 150 minutes!). Editing is ongoing, and I’m hoping to have this published (and running for under 2 hours!) next week.

Incoming! – Well, the vidcasts were published as normally last week, but are likely to take a small hiatus until the end of October.

Miniature Review Vidcast – I’m desperate to get some of these out, but I simply can’t see it happening until the end of the month.

“What is the problem?” I hear you ask?

A simple lack of time, I’m afraid. I spent half of last weekend in Oxford, and I’m away again this weekend, as my niece is getting married. Schools Half-Term week is upon us in October as well, and I’m away for two consecutive weekends as the family are on holiday in Skye (and the laptop has been banded from being taken!)

I’m (somewhat desperately) hoping that things will return to something approaching normal come the end of October – assuming I remember what normal is, of course!

Meeples & Miniatures – Episode 52

Can you believe the summer is almost at an end? Everyone is planning for ‘going back to school’, England are preparing to finally lose the Ashes series – and I finally get to go away on holiday!

However, as a parting summer gift, I’ve uploaded Episode 52 of the Meeples & Miniatures podcast. This is a look back at what I’ve been doing over the summer – the UK Games Expo and Manorcon mainly – but with a bit of extra chat about my favourite Gen Con highlights (I almost felt like I was there) and even some chat about a computer game that would make a great miniatures game.

I hope you enjoy the show, and look out for lots of new content coming in September.

View from the Veranda Episode 3 delayed…

August 13, 2009

Henry and I had hoped to record an episode of View from the Veranda tomorrow so that it would be published before the end of the month.

Unfortunately, Henry has been rather ill over the past few weeks with a chest infection which has yet to respond to treatment. Given that, and the fact that I’m on holiday at the end of August, we have decided to delay the next recording session of VftV until early September.

Apologies for this – I know you’ll understand, and along with me wish Henry a very speedy and full recovery.

Meeples & Miniatures – Interview with Rich Jones

August 13, 2009

Download Rich Jones Interview

Welcome to another Meeples & Miniatures interview.

In this show, I chat to freelance gamer, rules author and surfer dude, Rich Jones.

Rich is pretty well known on the gaming circuit, and has had his finger in many pies, including Two Hour Wargames, Ambush Alley and Songs of Blades and Heroes, to name a few. However, he is still probably best known for the time he spent and a major part of the production team of Wargames Journal magazine.

We chat about Rich’s gaming background, various projects he’s worked on over the years and what he’s up to now.

However, since he’s lived in Australia for several years, I did completely fail to ask him the most vital of questions – who was he supporting in the Ashes Test series?

Maybe next time…

Podcast Interviews – audio problems?

August 10, 2009

Hi everyone

I’ve had a couple of comments of some forums about the poor audio quality of a couple of the recent interviews, so I thought a word of explanation may be in order.

Where possible, I try to record interviews with people via Skype – Skype, as that gives a very clear line (usually) – the View from the Veranda shows are a case in point.

However, not everyone I talk to has access to Skype, and therefore I record interviews from Skype – telephone, which has a mixed quality (for example, the most recent interview in show 51). I try to clear the results up as best I can, but I’m currently using fairly basic audio software, so the post recording processing is not what it could be.

If you think a particular show is suffering from poor audio, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do to clean it up further.

However, if anyone can recommend an audio package that could help with post-production audio clean-up, I would be grateful (For PC/Windows please – I know Macs are better for audio, but I’m somewhat constrained in my hardware choice at the moment)

Thanks.

Meeples & Miniatures – Episode 51

Welcome to a short (but hopefully sweet!) edition of the Meeples & Miniatures Podcast.

In this show, I simply concentrate on one subject – the Society of Ancients.

I chat about the aims and objectives of the Society with Richard Lockwood, and I then go on to review Slingshot, the SoA’s publication for members.

I hope you enjoy the show.
