Welcome to Episode 3 of View from the Veranda, with Neil Shuck & Henry Hyde.

In this show, we discuss our inspirations for wargaming – but with typical verbal diversions into the realms of British school history curriculum, Michael Bentine’s Potty Time and the mysterious disappearance of the Battle of Bosworth diorama.

View from the Veranda Episode 3 delayed…

August 13, 2009

Henry and I had hoped to record an episode of View from the Veranda tomorrow so that it would be published before the end of the month.

Unfortunately, Henry has been rather ill over the past few weeks with a chest infection which has yet to respond to treatment. Given that, and the fact that I’m on holiday at the end of August, we have decided to delay the next recording session of VftV until early September.

Apologies for this – I know you’ll understand, and along with me wish Henry a very speedy and full recovery.

Neil Shuck & Henry Hyde are back, discussing more subjects of interest to wargamers.

In this show, we follow up on a listener respone to Episode 1, and discuss one of the possible reasons why gamers do not game historical wargames – the whole issue of the morality and ethics of wargaming.

Is it ever wrong to game a particular conflict? Is it ever wrong to game a particular nation?

This is an emotive and potentially controversial subject, but we hope you enjoy our discussion.

VftV is a spin off from the Meeples & Miniatures podcast, and features Neil Shuck in conversation with Henry Hyde, editor of Battlegames magazine.

In each show, we take one or two subjects as our theme, and simply ‘have a chat’ about the wargaming hobby, with these subjects in mind.

In this first episode, we discuss some of the contents of the latest issue of Battlegames magazine, and also chat about why historical wargaming doesn’t seem to be as popular as sci-fi and fantasy gaming.

So, pull up a chair and join us on the Veranda!
