View from the Veranda

From time to time I publish ‘special’ podcasts which are extras to the normal show. You can download these here:

VerandaView from the Veranda

Join your host Neil Shuck & special guest host Henry Hyde as they talk about all things wargaming.

This is a free format show, very much like a chat in the local pub – we usually have a main topic which we talk about, but who knows where we can end up!

Episode 6 – 6 month catch-up

Episode 5 – C&C Ancients, SOA Battle Day, Battle Reports and Wargaming Magazines

Episode 4 – Black Powder & related subjects…

Episode 3 – What inspires you to wargame?

Episode 2 – The morality of wargaming.

Episode 1 – Battlegames Issue 17 & Historical vs Sci-Fi/Fantasy gaming

    Hi Neil,

I really enjoyed the interviews for both the Ambush Alley and the Two Fat Lardies rule systems. Why would someone buy one rather than the other? Two systems for modern warfare, both with plenty of support, both sound well researched and giving believable levels of simulation so what would make someone plump for one rather than the other – sight unseen?

    all the best,

    Stephen

  2. I was surpised that Forces of Valour didn’t come up when discussing pre-paints as well as several other WWII companies in various scales. One of my main WWII opponants fields entire armies of them (backed by some figures he hired me to piant!). -Ross

Hehe thanks for episode 4 of VftV… Good listening got me through another work day :D

    Happy New Year!

    Neil,
I really enjoy these. Keep up the good work. Very interesting to hear you guys talk about stuff and go off on not so random tangents. When is number 5 going to be ready?

    Best wishes,
    Brett

  5. Hi Neil,

How are you doing? Just listened to the latest View from the Veranda and I really enjoyed it. Those chats with Henry are great. Particularly enjoyed the discussion about the Black Powder rules which we’ve just recently started using at our club. We like the rules too.

Glad you archive your other Meeples and Miniatures podcasts as occasionally I accidentally miss some. About to listen to your last 2.

    Thanks

    Jason

      Hi Jason

Glad you enjoyed the show. I haven’t had chance to catch up much with Henry recently (I think we both have been incredibly busy) but I’m hoping to be able to record a show with him soon.

      Cheers
      Neil.

I have only just started listening to these, and I have to say I am really enjoying them. Your freewheeling chats with Henry ring so many bells. Especially enjoyed Episode 3, even more so when I heard Henry mention my name as a source of inspiration. Don’t quite know how I got my head out of the door. More please!!!!!!!!

  9. Just caught up with these on Richard Clarke’s recommendations. I’ve now listened to all seven podcasts, becoming an iTunes subscriber in the process, and have to say they are jolly amusing witterings. Really like Henry when he is doing the Major and Colonel routines; more of those please.

    Hi,

I’ve really enjoyed your various podcasts, but I particularly enjoyed Episode 2 on the morality of wargaming. Interesting stuff to a complete newbie to the hobby, and, at least from looking at various forums, not a lot of that sort of introspection goes on.

  11. JWH says:

This blogger examines the issues of morality in wargaming quite regularly.

Thanks for the link, JWH. Lots to chew through, there.

Neil, is there any reason why episode seven is not available here? Of course it could be me being a duffer, but I can’t find it.
