Meeples & Miniatures – Too Fat Lardies Interview

Download Too Fat Lardies Interview

Finally, the interview I’ve been promising you for several weeks.

Following on from my recent reviews of Through The Mud & The Blood and it’s supplements, I finally got chance to sit down and have a telephone conversation with Richard Clarke of Too Fat Lardies.

We chat about Richard’s gaming background and how TFL was originally formed. We then discuss several of TFL’s rulesets, look at some of Richard’s rules design process and philosophy, and finally talk about what’s to come in the future.

And, of course, we ask the question that is on the mind of all serious wargamers at the moment…

What colour socks do elephants wear?

I hope you enjoy the show!

  1. Best interview yet Neil. Great work and many thanks to Richard for participating. My perceptions of Richard were absolutely shattered when he said he listened to Meeples and Miniatures whilst utilising the Running Machine. The company should be renamed to Two Ultra Fit and Slim Blokes.

    • Paul,

I did consider marketing this as the ‘biggest interview in gaming’ – but Richard is the tall one, I’m the wide one…

    Great interview.

Really enjoyed listening to Richard’s take on wargames design (incl the Kriegsspiel influence). Particularly like the whole ‘friction’/randomness being one of the main points, and the systems for simulating it. Has me interested in TWAT and LFS…

    Curses! Need more money!

  3. An absolutely outstanding interview, Neil. Knowing him in person, I was delighted that he came across as just the same affable, intelligent and articulate chap that he is in the flesh. Thought-provoking and entertaining, Rich is a great ambassador for the hobby and you brought out the very best in him. Well done!

  4. Fantastic interview Neil. Thanks to both yourself and Rich. I really love TFL rules, and while listening to Rich talking about the fundamentals behind them, i understood why! Thanks again, and keep em coming. Are you going to be doing any of these interview shows with any miniatures companies? I’m sure i’m not the only one who would love to hear you chat to the lads at victrix, perry or warlord.

Get the Perry’s! Get the Perry’s!

    • I’d love to get the Perry’s, but as I don’t actually know them at all, I fear it may be a while before I can get them on the show…

However, I am currently ‘in talks’ with Warlord and Wargames Factory among others. I’ll see if Vitrix are intertested as well, as following on from our discussions about the plastics industry, it would be intertesing to hear things from the manufacturers point of view – it would make a good series, I think…

    Right then…

So who do you know who knows someone who knows the Twins?

    (never mind the plastic stuff)
