Big Ships coming for Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures from FFG

At GenCon today, Christian Pietersen, CEO of Fantasy Flight Games, gave his annual ‘In Flight’ report, which highlights how FFG have been doing, and what we can expect to see from them in the next few months.

By the end of 2013, we should see the next ‘Big Box’ expansion for the Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game, as well as the release of second edition Battlelore (which, although I was somewhat down on it in my last post, from the pictures from Gen Con, does look pretty cool)

However, some of the main news was about the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures game. Apparently, in the year since launch, this has become FFG’s best-selling game…ever. That’s going some.

The bad news is that Wave 3 is not going to see retail release until September (most of us were hoping to see the new models before the end of the month), but the good news is that Wave 4 is introducing BIG ships; namely the Rebel Transport (GR-75 Medium Transport) and the Tantive IV (Blockade Runner, or CR90 Corvette). Although big, these are shrunken in scale compared to the X-Wing. The pricing is, as you might expect, suitably big too – the Rebel Transport will be $59.99 and the Tantive IV $89.99 (full expect that to be converted pretty much straight into £s for UK retail).

FFG are also going to release new ‘epic’ scale rules and a cinematic campaign system – I can see the future full of convoy protection missions (with waves of TIE-Fighter escorted TIE-Bombers) and other such goodness.

Better start saving the pennies now…

  1. Pennies? Pennies? It’ll take more than pennies! This is the realisation of Ronald Reagan’s Star Wars initiative.
